Wealden Labour Youth Officer, Vice chair of Uckfield Labour and candidate for Uckfield New Town ward.
I am a 28 year old who has grown up in Uckfield before travelling and living in Canada for a year and Australia for just under 4 years were I managed in some of top restaurants including Royal Sydney Golf Club before moving back to Uckfield where I live today.I’m a member of the cooperative and labour party and have been heavily linked with Wealden Labour party and the Uckfield branch for over a year now. In my year I have become Youth Officer, Head of the Wealden Labour media and online team and I head a focus group on the ambulance service and NHS in East Sussex.
As Youth Officer I am aiming to link the younger members with the team to help build policy around young people. I also would like to help young members and non members to have a bigger voice within Wealden Labour over the coming year. I am also working with Sussex police and local groups as well as the town council on youth development and to prevent crime, education, sexual health and also mental health issues.
The Wealden Labour Media team have had a really successful year with higher public engagement and local campaign building. We have also helped promote a number of successful fund raisers with a gig at the hop yard in forest row and the gala dinner with 2 MP’s as guest speakers but to name a few.
Within the ambulance and NHS focus group I have linked Wealden Labour up with the SECAmb Unison communications coordinator were we put on a presentation to the party about the issues SECAmb are having and the effects of cuts. I are putting campaigning ideas and summer time fund raise for the equipment for a volunteer community first responder to try and help ease the issues highlighted in the group on ambulance waiting times. I have also attended the SECAmb Unison AGM where I managed to meet and link the party with Alan Lofthouse The National Officer, Health group for Unison.
I have a interest in housing in Wealden and impoticular the Ridgewood and spend a lot of time keeping up with the housing plan within Wealden and the effects it has on the local community.
As Wealden labour youth officer I want to also look more in to youth development and the funding of youth clubs in Wealden with the cuts we are seeing. I have expressed my worries about Uckfield youth club being closed to the party and local council. Also as youth officer I am working with other CLP’s around Sussex and Kent to inter link young members and collectively giving them a bigger voice in the party.
My reason for wanting to be a part of the Cooperative Labour are that I want to give a voice to the people around me but also to meet people, show my core values of community, fairness and working to help families and the community have better lives.
That’s a little about why I am proud to be a Cooperative Labour member.
